Project Feature: Pelican Point

With stunning river views, this deftly modern and sophisticated home is all about luxury and contemporary comfort. Nestled in Pelican Point, a sought-after pocket of Bunbury, the architectural home boasts five bedrooms, three bathrooms, multiple living and dining areas, a large garage and a beautiful, north-facing balcony.

The Brief

Designed by Dane Design Australia, this Pelican Point home is a marvel of Australian modern design. Full of sharp lines, angular shapes and stunning materials, the project required a builder with an eye for detail and the capacity to pull off such a complex and intricate design. It was also an especially unique project as it was a north-facing block with water views – something you rarely come across in Western Australia.

This was a competitive build, with three builders invited to tender. We felt privileged and humbled to be selected by our clients, who put a lot of faith and trust in our team to deliver the project to the highest of quality, within budget and on time.

Challenges

We began building the home right as the Coronavirus pandemic began in March 2020, which caused a few supply concerns.

The home’s exterior features grey, concrete split-face blocks, which are manufactured in Gympie QLD. With hardly any other suppliers in the country (and none in WA) we needed these specific blocks for the build. While usually shipped over, these had to come by truck due to time constraints. This was a very nervous time for our team as we had to negotiate various state border closures to get these blocks to our building site!

Beyond this issue, our Pelican Point home was a joy to build. We had a fantastic team of tradespeople working together harmoniously to ensure the design was executed with precision and care.

Notable features

In the stunning contemporary kitchen on the first floor, we installed a dumbwaiter, a unique but certainly very useful addition to the home. More commonly found in commercial buildings, a dumbwaiter is a small freight elevator which helps move food from different storeys.

Other notable features of the build include those highly sought-after grey split-face blocks, Vulcan weatherboards, textured coat render and exposed aggregate concrete.

After the success of this Pelican Point home, we’re extremely excited to be working with Dane Design Australia on two homes, which are currently in construction. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to keep updated on the progress at these projects.
